The Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Unit (CIIU), Lagos State Police Command, on Wednesday said it had commenced investigation into the alleged suicide by a pharmacist, Paul Olafare.
The deceased was said to have committed the act on April 12 at his residence.
The crime correspondents of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) report that the wife of the deceased, Busayo, is currently being detained at the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence unit.
The mother of three told NAN at the CIIU where she was being detained that before her husband’s demise he had made an attempt to commit suicide.
“My husband sent me a text saying if he does not survive it that I can re-marry and that he was sorry. He also wrote a note addressed to his family, church and his work place,’’ Busayo said, without disclosing what that letter contained.
The officer in charge of the command’s Homicide Unit at Panti, Yaba, Dan Iyamah, told NAN that the police had recovered the remaining substance the deceased allegedly took before his death.
“We are sending the substance for forensic analysis to confirm if the substance could be the cause of the death. After this, a post-mortem will also be carried out on the corpse,’’ Inyamah said.
He added that after investigation, if the woman was found guilty of causing the husband’s death, she would be charged to court but otherwise, she would be set free.
Meanwhile, Busayo’s relations have appealed to the police to release her on bail following the deceased’s message to her and the unread note to the church and his work place.
